Program Objectives and Analysis Procedures

Income and cash flow problems are leading causes of farm failures. These difficulties are often caused by poor decisions on investments in land, machinery, buildings, and other capital assets. Investment errors have been particularly troublesome to some farmers in recent years. large amounts of capital are typically on the line; most often this capital is borrowed funds with contractual principal and interest payments. Large outlays, coupled with the risk of long-term investments, extensive debt, and a highly volatile economy mean that mistakes can have devastating and long-standing consequences.

The options a farmer has for controlling a capital investment are quite limited once the capital has been commited. Thus, the key to investment control is identifying the projects with the potential for acceptable financial performance before capital is committed. This can be done by subjecting major investment proposals to a thorough financial analysis. The FINANCE microcomputer program is designed to analyze the financial performance of proposed capital investments.
